Scrapbook Retreat

On May 29th I headed off to Tors Cove with fellow scrapper,  Kelley,  to participate in a ’scrapbook retreat’. Neither Kelley nor I had ever been involved in anything like this and we were both wondering about looking a little too eager with the amount of luggage we carried - lots of scrapping supplies, very little of anything else. We needn’t have worried. I do believe we traveled light! Living farthest away, we were the last to arrive. The other ladies were all set up and our stash looked pretty meagre in comparison. In no time we were wishing we’d brought more. That said, everyone was happy to share their materials and their talents! We had a great weekend - scrapping until two in the morning Friday and one in the morning on Saturday - very productive. I came away with a wish list a mile long! A special thanks to Kay Smith, Stampin’Up demonstrator, for organizing the event and for inviting me along. I am eagerly awaiting arrival of a new Stampin’Up stamp set so I can get started on cards for my first swap!

This weekend was such great fun that I am planning on a ‘retreat’ in September for a group of scrappers here in Twillingate. Have half a dozen ladies who have indicated their interest already and I know there will be more. Get in touch and sign on now. For sure it will be an event you don’t want to miss!

A few pictures from the weekend - I’ve chopped off heads as I don’t show pictures of anyone without permission but this is just to give you an idea of the supplies the ladies brought along!

Besides ooh and aah over other people’s stuff, I did finish a couple layouts, a couple projects and learned a few new techniques. Here are two of the layouts I finished.

Max has a fascination with cars - all sizes!

Used all black and white photos for the beach layout with the exception of the one close-up that inspired the blue mattes. Love how it turned out.

Susie from http://www.papermonkey.org was also at our retreat and her work with Magnolia stamps - as well as a number of other stamps she used - was absolutely stunning. I liked her work so much that I came home and ordered a number of Copics - a pricey purchase - but after I tried Susie’s stamps and Copics, I was hooked!

And of course, there were a number of projects on the go.

It was a great weekend and I’m very much looking forward to doing something quite similar this fall with the local ladies! Hope to see you there too.
