Get Well Wishes - Loads of Love

Posted: June 30th, 2010 by Jean

I’ve had this Stampin’ Up set, Loads of Love, for ages but believe this is the first time I used it and I am so so pleased with the result. I will admit that the layout and color combo I saw elsewhere and copied into my notebook of “things I really like and might do some day”. I needed a card for a male friend who is recuperating from recent surgery and this one certainly fits the bill. Used my Stampin’ Up piercing tool and mat to add a little detail. I know the chrome on the tire IS the tire - no rubbah here - and is perhaps a little too much but I so love this touch. Super cool! “Grammy, that’s a cool truck,” Max would say. I asked him one day what made a car ‘cool’. Lots of stickers, a spoiler and hubcaps, I was told. With hubcaps this big, this truck has GOT to be cool! Inside I used the stamp set Lovely as a Tree and the sentiment Get Well Wishes from Teeny Tiny Wishes. The cardstock is Kraft, Night of Navy and Old Olive. The ribbon is also Old Olive. I colored the truck with my Copics: B91 Pale Grayish Blue and B95 Light Grayish Cobalt. It doesn’t fit into my Double Double challenge, I’m afraid. While I have used two hubcaps, nothing I used was laying about or unfinished. Still, I do so like the card. It’s a manly man’s card. lol  I hope it brings a smile.

Hope you’re feeling better and back in the driver’s seat in no time!

Mojo Monday 145 and The ABC Challenge: X is for Xtra Dimension

Posted: June 29th, 2010 by Jean

Even though school’s out for summer, I am still drawn to the fun colors school cards allow me to play with. I love this card. Used the two digital images Trinity and Harvard from Mo Manning (aren’t they adorable?) and assorted school-themed paper. Lots of pop dots make the two little characters - colored with Copics - really stand out. The red/yellow star was a sheet of paper I swapped at our last retreat. Perfect!

This card also fits the Double Double challenge here at Just Scraps. I used two stars and two school themed DP and two students. This little beauty is on its way to a colleague who is delighted to be moving into a new teaching position. Congratulations!

This card is entered into the following challenges:

ABC Challenge Blog - X is for Xtra Dimension

Mojo Monday - Sketch 145

Also put together these little note cards - took only minutes to do. Super cute and super easy. The inside ‘note’ area is a white square with the edges punched with the Stampin’Up spiral border. I recently purchased the Stampin’Up stamp set Apple Blossom and want to see just how versatile the stamp set is. These little cards also fit my own  Double Double challenge with the two eyelets - a stretch I know. :)

Just Scraps Challenge #14 - Make mine a Double Double

Posted: June 28th, 2010 by Jean

Hurrah! Hurrah! Holidays at last. Two months of R and R. Gotta love it. Started digging out a little yesterday - and I have a lot of digging out to do, trust me.

ONE: My house needs some major attention. The dust bunnies have taken over and

TWO: my craft room is in disarray with serious need of organization. So, my challenge this week is TWOfold.

ONE: Get rid of some of that unfinished business on your desk - I have tons of stuff started and not finished and suspect many of you are in the same boat.  And

TWO: Whatever your creation, try DOUBLING something up.

Got my inspiration here. Made a trip in over the road yesterday to do a little shopping and brought back these outfits for the two boys - DOUBLE everything these days when I shop. lol

mini-monsters

Tonight I did a little organizing in the loft and also finished these cards - parts of which have been lying about as ‘unfinished business’. This first one repeats the word Memories. There are also two clocks on the card front. The image is Mo Manning’s Late. I saw the most fabulous creation using this particular image on his blog - gorgeous - mine comes nowhere near that and I’m not sure what I’ll do with such a large clunky card - but I do like the whole Alice think I see going on in cards these days. I read Alice in Wonderland as a child - have to say I didn’t particularly like it. My Mom had this whole set of children’s classics and I read them all. Tales of Arabian Nights was probably my favorite.

memories

This next one has two flowers. Have used this image before. I think it’s darling.

froggie

This one has the two mice. The cute little crochet flower is the corner is one of several my Mom crocheted for me. At seventy-nine, her fanciwork is second to no one’s. The card is no big deal - not my best coloring for sure but it was lying around and fit the bill.

Can’t honestly say I’m particularly pleased with any of these cards - though I do like the froggie - but perhaps I’ll have better luck today.

mice

Also sent off a stack of cards for a swap I’m participating in. I love receiving all the cards in return. I haven’t entered in many but if you know of a good one, drop me a line. I think these are really pretty. I like the pocket on the front and the 3D flower. Doesn’t fit into the challenge but thought I’d post anyway.

swap

This challenge will run for TWO weeks - ends Sunday, July 10th at which time I am going to choose my favorite entry for the blog candy. I usually make a random draw, but this time I’m changing it up a little, to make it just a little more interesting.

Be sure to link up to Mr. Linky below and have a great day. This is officially Day One of my holidays and while the temp is only about 15 degrees, I’m sure I’ll find something to do outside.

(Not sure why these little red x’s appeared - ignore while I try to get rid of them)

And Congrats to Design NeAl who won this week’s little bit of blog candy. Contact me at justscraps.ca@gmail.com with your snail mail address and I’ll get a little package in the mail to you this week.

Thank you Claire!

Posted: June 14th, 2010 by Jean

I received the most beautiful card in the mail today from my scrapping buddy Claire. What a delightful surprise and what a great way to start my week.
Visit Claire’s site here: http://clairescraftycreations.blogspot.com . Check out her May 25th post to see my beautiful card. I don’t often get mail from across the pond - in fact I never get mail from across the pond - and I opened it immediately I checked the mail. Left the post office to pick up my grandson who, as soon as he spied it in the front seat, said “Oh Grammy, what a beautiful card.” Of course he wanted to hold it - of course I let him - and of course he immediately picked off one red jewel. “it looks better Grammy” was the response when I expressed my dismay.Ha! Anyway, I rescued the tiny jewel and glued it back on good as new. The card now sits on a special shelf in the craft room. Thank you so much Claire! You made my day!

Just Scraps Challenge #12 - Butterflies, Flowers and Birds

Posted: June 13th, 2010 by Jean

I have to apologize big time - I’m not ignoring my blog - I am just swamped right now with so many other things that I’m finding very little time to scrap or blog! On the up side, summer holidays start in just two weeks and I will have eight weeks to play! The little I have been doing has everything to do with buttlerflies, flowers and birds - favors for the upcoming wedding. So that’s my challenge - create something - anything - with butterflies, flowers, and birds - as long as it’s not a name tag! When you do hundreds, it gets a little ho-hum. :) But what a great way to use up scraps!

Looks like I am not the only one flat out busy - not a whole lot of scrappers participating this week - and so to those of you who have, a great big thank you! I do so enjoy your visits and am feeling pretty guilty about not being a good hostess - promise things will be back to normal soon.

Congratulations Susan! Your name was randomly drawn for this week’s blog candy. Email me your snail address at justscraps.ca@gmail.com and I’ll get a little package in the mail to you this week.

Get to work on those layouts, cards, ATCs, or 3D projects. Can’t wait to see them! You have until Sunday, June 20th to leave a link to your creation using the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post. Mr. Linky will close on that date and we will draw for a bit of blog candy.

Just Scraps Challenge #11 - Play with the Primary Colors

Posted: June 6th, 2010 by Jean

Weekend over already! Spent Friday evening with Sam and Saturday evening with Max. Did a little weeding in my garden Saturday afternoon. Today I caught up on the housework and then spent some time scrapping. I’m working on a Graduation Album for a special young lady but can’t post pictures until I’m finished.

Another crazy week gone and one more coming up - things just aren’t slowing down at all. I start my summer holidays on the 26th of June, however, and once July rolls around, I’ll have all kinds of time to scrap, post, and play.

Speaking of play, worked this past Saturday with a great group of volunteers to erect a fence around our school’s proposed playground. The weather was FABulous - I think it got up to 18 degrees at one point - and NO RAIN! Everything went tickety-boo. Talk about teamwork - men pushing wheel barrows this way and that and the ladies dishing out food and charm. All our posts are in place and we’ll string the wire mesh Monday evening.

Sooooo, with visions of swings and slides and climbers in my head - the challenge this week is to use the three primary colors in your card - red, yellow, and blue.

play

Hope you have a great week. Don’t sweat the small stuff and make sure you take time to play!

Congrats to Tami who won this week’s little bit of blog candy and thanks to everyone who played along.

Get to work on those layouts, cards, ATCs, or 3D projects. Can’t wait to see them! You have until Sunday, June 13th to leave a link to your creation using the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post. Mr. Linky will close on that date and we will again draw one name for a bit of blog candy: something else to play with!
