Just Scraps Challenge #18 - Fussy Cutting

Posted: August 22nd, 2010 by Jean

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our last challenge. Einat, I pulled your name out of the butter tub this week and if you send me your snail address, I’ll get a little package in the mail.

Came across the term ‘fussy cutting’ on someone’s blog a little while back and just loved the phrase - don’t know if it’s original to that particular person or if it’s a phrase common to the craft.  No matter, I love it. Fussy cutting -perfect description for some of the work behind so many of the cards and layouts I see so many of you do. And certainly perfect for this one. Don’t know why on earth I’d choose a card with ‘fussy cutting’ for a card swap - I have to do twenty plus - but I’m hoping everyone will like it. I do.

Soooo - challenge for this fortnight: Let`s see a little fussy cutting on your card or layout.

Be sure to sign on with Mr. Linky below. Mr. Linky closes again in two weeks, Sunday, September 5th - can you believe it, the summer is almost gone! -at which time I’ll draw for a little candy. Have a great week and thanks for coming back!

Challenge 17 : Open House

Posted: August 8th, 2010 by Jean

Hello all - I’ve been ‘holidaying’ this past week with my sister - looks like perhaps a good many of you have as well. Congrats Kim! You win again - lol. Good thing for you I’ve been in the city this week - so an extra sweet goodie bag for you when I get back.

I’m back on the two week schedule. Not sure how much longer I will keep this up. It takes a little work and dedication and I’m afraid that I fell down on the job a couple weeks back and perhaps may have lost some of the faithful few.

We will have a last ‘kick at the cat’ so to speak and see how it goes.  So for the Challenge #17 - anything goes - post your favorite work between now and August 22nd.

Off to see the sights again - going home Tuesday so must cram in as much as I can. Will post Mr. Linky later today!

Challenge #15 - Love is in the Air

Posted: July 12th, 2010 by Jean

I’m late! I’m late! This should have been posted last night but DH has had an affair with a kidney stone the past few days and I’ve been back and forth to the hospital and what not. He’s home again now and things are back to normal. Or as normal as it gets around here. Still not quite ready for that wedding. SIL called last night and I missed a few names on the list in preparing the wedding favors, etc. so I’m still not finished! I think I might be color blind. My niece had it all laid out wonderfully in a spread sheet, color coded and everything . Amongst those I missed were my brother and his wife - parents of the bride. haha  Fortunately it’s raining here today and coolish so I’ll head on up to the loft and get things done. The past couple days we’ve had fabulous weather - in the low 30s - amazing! Here in Newfoundland, that is uncommon, believe me. I hope it lasts - the wedding is on Saturday and is to take place outside in the garden! Max is ‘walking  in the wedding’ he tells me and Grammy can’t wait to see her two boys dressed up wedding fashion!

Sooooooo, in keeping with all the activities around here this week, the challenge at Just Scraps is to create a wedding card! I have to get a special one done for Sarah Jane myself but I’ve been fooling around with the stamp set Artistic Impressions from Stampin’Up. I’ve seen a number of beautiful cards using this set and have cased several.

I have a stack of tiny cards on hand that I use for leaving DH notes as necessary. They are super easy to make and he actually notices them. This is a new version - a little fancier - using the same stamp set. He’ll know he’s my king - haha - tongue’s in the cheek on that one ladies!

The hardware on the last one is actually silver but it photographed as gold.

That’s it for today.

And Congrats to Mary Demmons who won this week’s little bit of blog candy. Contact me at justscraps.ca@gmail.com Mary with your snail mail address and I’ll get a little package in the mail to you this week.  Too funny! I’ve been cutting out numbers and stirring them up in my butter tub for DH to draw from. Just discovered random.org and it took me only seconds to generate #17. Needless to say, the butter tub has just been retired!

Be sure to sign on with Mr. Linky below. Mr. Linky closes next Sunday, July 18th at which time I’ll use random .org - no butter tub - and get a little blog candy in the mail.

Have a great week !

Get Well Wishes - Loads of Love

Posted: June 30th, 2010 by Jean

I’ve had this Stampin’ Up set, Loads of Love, for ages but believe this is the first time I used it and I am so so pleased with the result. I will admit that the layout and color combo I saw elsewhere and copied into my notebook of “things I really like and might do some day”. I needed a card for a male friend who is recuperating from recent surgery and this one certainly fits the bill. Used my Stampin’ Up piercing tool and mat to add a little detail. I know the chrome on the tire IS the tire - no rubbah here - and is perhaps a little too much but I so love this touch. Super cool! “Grammy, that’s a cool truck,” Max would say. I asked him one day what made a car ‘cool’. Lots of stickers, a spoiler and hubcaps, I was told. With hubcaps this big, this truck has GOT to be cool! Inside I used the stamp set Lovely as a Tree and the sentiment Get Well Wishes from Teeny Tiny Wishes. The cardstock is Kraft, Night of Navy and Old Olive. The ribbon is also Old Olive. I colored the truck with my Copics: B91 Pale Grayish Blue and B95 Light Grayish Cobalt. It doesn’t fit into my Double Double challenge, I’m afraid. While I have used two hubcaps, nothing I used was laying about or unfinished. Still, I do so like the card. It’s a manly man’s card. lol  I hope it brings a smile.

And inside . . .

Hope you’re feeling better and back in the driver’s seat in no time!

Just Scraps Challenge #9 - Chocolate Chip with a Splash of Color

Posted: May 24th, 2010 by Jean

Sorry for the late post but it’s the May 2-4 weekend and here in my part of the world that’s a very big deal - the kick off to summer. I’ve been in holiday mode so last night forgot all about posting to my blog.

Saturday was the day of the big launch for us - a little disapppointing as one of the pumps wasn’t working right and we had to pull her up again. Max, however, was thrilled with all the excitement - he still got to eat his lunch on the boat. haha.

After we pulled the Northern Lights home again, we went to visit friends and from there we took our boy home. “This was a great day, Grammy”, he said - Is your glass half empty, Max, or half full?

grass1

Sunday it was Sam’s turn. Sam isn’t quite as active as Max just yet, but still takes up all our attention when he visits. DH had him chuckling away here. He’s sitting up like a big boy!

Today I’m spending in the loft. DH just put a fire in - it’s all of two degrees! I have some wedding favors to work on for my niece’s upcoming wedding - chocolate chip with a splash of color so ……. this week I challenge you to use just that - a scrap of brown with a splash of color. I’ll post pictures of my own work later today.

Hope you had a safe weekend and that there are lots of good things in store for you this week. I have a birthday on the horizon - next Sunday actually, so to everyone who participates this week, I’ll send a pattern from paperandpiecings.com - your choice. This is the last week our challenge will be sponsored by Paper and Piecings. Something new next week so here’s your chance to get your favorite pattern for free.

You have until Sunday, May 30th to leave a link to your creation -  card, layout, ATC, any paper project - using the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post. Mr. Linky will close on that date.

Congratulations to Yvonne whose name we drew this week. Email me Yvonne at justscraps.ca@gmail.com with your pattern choice and I’ll get that to your right away.l Thanks to everyone who played along!

Happy Scrapping!

Another Gray Day

Posted: May 17th, 2010 by Jean

Still raining and so miserably cold. Yuk! DH, however, put in a fire for me and I braved the elements to make my way to the loft where I whiled away a couple hours. Unpacked and reorganized my supplies from this weekend’s retreat and had time to make a couple cards - made sure I used scraps of gray in both.

The first also uses the pattern Elliott from Paper and Piecings, our sponsor again this week. Elliott is a die-hard fisherman - like a good many Dads I know! The gray is in the fish. The card didn’t photograph well. I had the flash off and it’s rather dark and dingy here right now. I’ll take a better picture tomorrow.
fathers-day1

The second card I made using scraps of paper from an old calendar rescued from the trash. Particularly liked this scrap as it uses Sam’s name. (Sam is number two grandson and every bit as adorable as his older brother)  Added a couple scraps of gray so this one fits this week’s challenge as well.

Just Scraps - Challenge #8 - A Scrap of Gray

Posted: May 16th, 2010 by Jean

Sunday already! Can’t believe it.  Just got back from another weekend retreat. Friday after work, I loaded up the car and headed to the east coast of the island with scrappin’ buddy, Kelley. We spent Friday night, all day Saturday, and again this morning with a super group of ladies doing one of my favorite things: scrapping! There were sixteen of us. What fun to share ideas and see others’ cards and layouts.  Thank you ladies!

And a great big thanks to all who played along this past week at Just Scraps. I’ve peeked at all your cards though didn’t take the time tonight to stop and visit as I usually do. I wanted to get this post finished before I hit the sack. Long day - long drive - and morning comes early.

In spite of it being mid May, our weather is far from spring-like. Cold, wet, and miserable with overcast, gray skies. At least I don’t feel guilty about being inside scrapping rather than poking about in the garden. And more rain forecast for tomorrow. So gray it is! Use a scrap of gray in your card or layout this week and once again next Sunday we’ll do a random drow for three more patterns from Paper and Piecings.

Here are a few of the projects I finished this weekend. There are scraps of gray in each!

You have until Sunday, May 23rd to leave a link to your creation -  card, layout, ATC, any paper project - using the Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post. Mr. Linky will close on that date.

Hope you have a great week and congratulations to Teri whose name I drew for this week’s little bit of blog candy. Email me with your pattern choices, Teri, at justscraps.ca@gmail.com and I’ll get them to your right away.

Just Scraps Challenge # 7 - Think Pink

Posted: May 9th, 2010 by Jean

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! Hope you all had a great day with family and friends. We had a lovely supper with my Mom yesterday and with DH’s Mom and family today. Lobster two days in a row - quite the treat. Max went with us to the Lobster Pool to pick up the little critters. He quickly decided he’d have fries. Don’t think he could wrap his head around dining on something that crawls around and has its claws clamped together so it won’t nip.  DH cut the bands and one little fellow did clamp down - had to break the claw to free his finger. Too funny - at least from my perspective. Not, I’m sure, amusing to either DH or the lobster.

Max and I in church this morning. He was a good boy - stayed in his seat for most of the service - we bring lots of dinkies!  He asked the minister if she’d like to come to his house for a play date. She told him to have his Mommy call her. “What’s the church number?” he asked. I could squat him. He’s pretty slick for three years old. I had thought about bringing Sam along as well, but not quite sure I’m up to handling both of them at church just yet. I was watching the little girls and they seem so much gentler and quieter than my rough and tumble crowd. Boys, boys and more boys! Yesterday Max and I chased rabbits through the woods, played Lego, played dinkies and then I came home to listen to DH talk about boats. Can’t help occasionally wishing there was a little pink in my life!

So there you have it - perhaps you can find a way to work a little pink into your cards and layouts this week - for all the Grammys and Mommys who - even though we love our boys - sometimes yearn for a wee bit of pink!

Found my way to this image of little Newton through a blog I follow. There are several coloring sheets here to download, size and use for your cards. I think they are darling. Check it out at http://www.newtons-law.com/colouring/

Have a great week and thanks so much for playing along!

Card Challenge: About a Boy: Dump Trucks, Cement Mixers, Fast Cars and Other Boy Stuff

Posted: February 26th, 2010 by Jean

Here’s the challenge! To play along you have to make a boy card or scrapbook layout featuring one of those movers or shakers (or something) little boys - and big - seem to love. You can piece it, you can stamp it, you can color it. Post it on your blog - along with detailed instructions - and leave a link to your project using the Mr. Linky form at the bottom of this post. Mr. Linky will close on Sunday, March 7th.

To make this a little more fun, I’m offering this 3 layer clear stamp set Cutie from Stampology.  If I can’t figure out how to do a random number draw before the 7th, I’ll simply throw your names in a bag!
